AEM and Weiler Host Senator Joni Ernst in Knoxville

April 20, 2022 (Knoxville, Iowa)- The Association of Equipment Manufacturers’ (AEM) national grassroots campaign I Make America and AEM member company Weiler hosted U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) at Weiler’s Knoxville headquarters for a facility tour and discussion with Weiler employees. Weiler designs, engineers, and manufactures equipment for the paving market, and employs more than 550 people at its Iowa headquarters.

Senator Ernst, who serves on the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Environment and Public Works, has been a trusted partner to the equipment manufacturing industry during her eight years in Congress. The Senator is a tireless advocate for free and fair trade, a champion for American biofuels, and a strong voice for equipment manufacturers. Her votes in favor of the historic United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, and the 2018 Farm Bill, among others, have made a real and lasting difference for the 2.8 million men and women of the equipment manufacturing industry. In recognition of her outstanding support for the equipment manufacturing industry, AEM presented Senator Ernst with its Champion of the Industry Award in 2021.

“In today’s world, supporting American manufacturing and decreasing our reliance on adversaries, like China, is critical to our economic security. As I meet and visit with small businesses and manufacturers across Iowa throughout my 99 County Tour, I consistently hear about the challenges so many are facing in today’s economy, including higher costs under record inflation levels, obstacles in recruiting a full workforce, and ongoing supply chain issues, all of which I am pushing solutions to address,” said Senator Joni Ernst. “Thank you to Weiler and the Association of Equipment Manufacturers for hosting me today for this insightful discussion about ways Washington can support American manufacturing and for the tour of this great Iowa facility.”

“Weiler is proud to welcome Senator Ernst to our facility today, and we are grateful for her support of our industry,” said Weiler President and CEO Pat Weiler. “Today’s discussion with Senator Ernst was productive and touched on the priorities and challenges facing our industry. Weiler will continue making top-of-the-line paving equipment and is encouraged by her efforts in Congress that empower our workers and industry.”

“Throughout her time in Congress, Senator Ernst has consistently recognized the important contributions of equipment manufacturers and has worked tirelessly to encourage a strong and vibrant industry,” said Kip Eideberg, AEM senior vice president of government and industry relations. “The 2.8 million men and women of our industry have always been able to count on her support for policies that keep equipment manufacturing strong, including free and fair trade, a competitive tax code, and strong rural communities.”

During 2022, I Make America will continue hosting state and federal elected officials at AEM member company facilities across the country. To learn more about the I Make America grassroots campaign click here.
